We Are Phoenix
by Timothy C Takach
This will be the Alabama debut of Timothy C. Takach’s We Are Phoenix, a multi-movement work for SATB choir and strings. The work explores the connection between humanity and the natural world, using Earth’s cycles of destruction, adaptation, and renewal as a metaphor for the human experience. Drawing on texts by multiple poets and writers, its movements confront change, loss, grief, resilience, and the possibility of beginning again. Throughout the work, images of fire, ash, forests, storms, and regrowth remind listeners that struggle and renewal are inseparable parts of life. Ultimately, We Are Phoenix offers a message of hope, affirming our capacity to heal, rise, and move forward after hardship.
