Vaughan William’s “Serenade to Music” and C. G. Walden’s  “Requiem of Hope”

Commissioned in honor of Prentice Concert Chorale’s 50th anniversary season, “Requiem of Hope” is a non-traditional mass for SATB chorus, Soprano and Baritone soloists, and chamber orchestra and was composed by C.G. (Sonny) Walden, III, an award-winning composer. This piece was first performed in March 2023 by the Prentice Concert Chorale and there are three reasons for performing “Requiem of Hope” again:

1) It has been nominated for the 2025 Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition

2) Composer, Sonny Walden has composed three new movements

3) This concert will be dedicated in memory of Terry Moore- our former and beloved collaborative pianist. Due to illness, Terry was unable to complete our final 2 weeks of “Requiem of Hope,” rehearsals and performances. Just a few brief months later he died. He was excited about this commissioned work which makes it a fitting tribute to his memory.

Vaughan Williams’ “Serenade to Music” is one of his most beautiful and beloved works. Composed in 1938, the text comes from Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, where the glories of music are so famously described.
