Dear Singers,Here are notes from Leslie from Monday night’s rehearsal and notes for this coming Monday’s rehearsal. See rehearsal tracks and marked score attachment at end of email.Nikki 

 

 Thank you for Monday’s 2/12 rehearsal.  We have hit the nitty gritty point of working out pronunciation, rhythm, pitch, phrasing, etc.  This is the part that can be tiring and possibly frustrating.  Hang on, the beauty of this music is just around the corner. This is what we covered:

1.       Worked Requiem pp. 4- to p. 7, letter D

2.       Review Confutatis, p. 36

  1. Tenor and Bass please work your two “duet” sections in first half of movt- clarify count and pitch
  2. Sang through Lacrymosa- better counting: know when there are 2 eights or 1 eighth rest at end of a phrase
    1. the crescendo of phrases needs to continue just past the apex of the phrase or word
      1. ex: m. 3 “lacrymosa”  the crescendo should continue a couple of eights of 3rd syllable “mo” before decrescendo. Vs. cresc. Up to the beginning of “mo”
      2. m. 5 when a word ends with vowel you have to stop the air/sound in order to not “bleed sound” into the rests (This applies for every word ending in vowel followed by a rest)

4.       Worked Domine Jesu, p. 44 to p. 47 (stop where solo entrances are marked)     

5.            Reviewed p. 48 Letter O to the end AND pp. 55 to 58 of Hostias (note the repetition)

This coming Monday, Feb. 19, here is our schedule:

  1. 7:00 warm-up sanctuary
  2. 7:05 T/B remain in sanctuary and S/A move to the choir room
  3. 7:07-8:10 both groups will work the following:
    1. Kyrie: p. 7 letter D to end of the movement
    2. Confutatis: pp. 36-38 (tenor/bass “duet”)

b.    Agnus Dei: p. 68-71 (soprano/alto)

  1. Domine Jesu: p. 46 letter M to end of movt. p. 51
  2. If Time…Agnus Dei; p. 75 Allegro to end of work
  3. 8:15 gather back in sanctuary to sing Domine Jesu, p. 46 letter M to end of movt. p. 51
